Nashik is a place of beauty and religious centres. Its important that you have to be at right spot to experience the beauty. Traditionally the place attracts tourists as it is known to be holly place. Hundreds of pilgrims arrive here to take a holly dip at the ‘Ramkund’ in the river Godavari which is considered the ‘Ganges of the south’. Nashik is particularly a city of temples and tourist spots are developed by these temples.

Today, Nashik is a bustling township with a blend of the ancient and the modern. Scattered across the city are numerous forts and majestic temples. But it is also the home to many industries. The Security Printing Press of the government, which prints the nation's currency, is located here. 

It is part of the green belt and is renowned for the various fruits and vegetables it produces. In fact the yield of grapes, strawberries and onions in Nashik is amongst the highest in the country. 

Climate 

Nashik was once much popular for its pleasant climate . Even today, in comparison with nearby places like Mumbai, Pune , Jalgaon etc. Nashik enjoys cool weather and a pleasant climate. The Deolali area in particular has the distinction of a very soothing climate and as such there are many Sanatoriums in this area for the visitors to come and stay . The temperature ranges from 5 deg C in chilly winters to 41 C (max) in very hot summer . Averege humidity is max 62% min 43% where as average rainfall is around 700 mm .

Places To See

Gangaghat 
Ramkund is the spot where the river godavari turns to right at an angle of 90 degrees and gains importance, as Lord Ram is said to have taken his daily bath here, during his stay at Nashik. The Gandhi Talav ie the pond here avials you the facility for boating in the evenings. Lots of water flowing, the cool breeze and the very famous ‘Chivda’ to munch upon, make it pleasent time to spend.

Temples
The Kalaram temple is a significant temple here in the panchavati area. Built in black stone few centuries ago it stands 70 ft. tall and the ‘Kalash’ is made of glitterence gold. Idols of Lord Ram , Laxman and Sita are worshipped here by the devotees. Nearby is the ‘Sita gumpha’ where Devi Sita is said to have stayed during her exile. Amongst other temples are Kapaleshwar Temple, Sundarnarayan temple, Naroshankar temple , Gorerram temple, Shree Balaji temple, all of them being situated around the river bank. Each temple has a history of two to three centuries and have there own legends and style of architechure.

There also is ‘Gurugangeshwar ved mandir ‘ and the ‘Muktidham’ at Nashikroad.

Coin Museum
The Indian Institute of Research in Numismatic Studies was established here in 1980. Located in the scenic surroundings of Anjneri Hill, the institute is the only one of its kind in Asia. The museum has a well-documented record of the history of Indian numismatics. Through photographs, articles, line drawings, replicas and real coins, one can study the various currency systems that existed in India down the ages. It has an extensive archive with nearly one hundred thousand cardexes preserved for easy reference. It also holds workshops to promote coin collecting in India. 

Around Nasik

Around Nashik ie at Deolali, is a temple hill a small hillock with a temple of ‘Lord Khandoba’ at top surronded by the area of artillery centre it bears a very different kind of ambience. 

Tapovan’ is about 6 kms from the city towards Aurangabad road, a place where Laxman is said to have cut ‘Shurpanakha’s nose’.

Someshwar is about 8 kms towards Gangapur. A temple of Lord Shiva by the river Godavari makes it a very scenic place. Also here are ‘Dudh Sagar’ falls which is simply beautiful.

Trimbakeshwar is another temple 28 kms away from Nashik . Surrounded by mountains is this temple of Lord Shiva . This temple is among the 12 ‘Jyotirlingas’. Bramhagiri is the mountain at Trimbakeshwar where the river ‘Godavari’ originates in small pond and then reappears again at the Gomukh on the Gangadwar mountion.

Vani’ is another famous temple 53 kms from Nashik. A temple of Goddess ‘Saptashringi’ a top mountain makes it a special place to visit. The reach the temple one has to climb around 750 well built steps. One can reach upto the base of the steps by vehicle through the ghat roads. 

Shirdi
The most famous temple of Lord Saibaba at Shirdi pulls thousands of devotees to shirdi every day. It is 90 kms. away from Nashik and is a place of devotion for many.

There is also ‘Gondeshwar temple’ at Sinner which is about 30 kms from Nashik. It is particularly famous for its uncommon architechure.

DAMS
Nandur Madhmeshwar is another tourist spot and known particularly as the birds sanctury . Different species of migrating birds are seen here during the month of October to March. There is a dam, the Nandur Madhmeshwar irrigation dam on river Godavari.The place is 60 kms from nashik. It is a large wetland surronded by fields of sugarcane, wheat and grape orchids.

Among the other dams the Gangapur dam 15 kms from Nashik, Vaitarana dam is from 45 kms from Nashik.

Chamarlene (
Cave) Nine km to north of Nashik towards Mhasrul are Jain Gajapanth Caves also known as ‘Chamarleni’. The caves belonging to the 11 century. A top the hill is a temple of Adinath and by the foothills is the temple of Lord Parasnath.

Pandavlene (
Cave) On Mumbai Agra Road among the Anjaneri hills are these caves and carved sculptures called Pandavlene. These are said to be residing places of Budha and Jain monks during 400 to 600 B.C and 1000 to 1100 BC respectively.

How To Get There

By road Nashik is 185 kms from Mumbai and can be reached by motoring on the NH-3 via Thane-Kasar-Igatpuri. Pune-Nashik is 220 kms. There are several private and state buses available between Mumbai/Thane and Nashik. By rail, Nashik is one the major stations on the Central Railway and there are a number of convenient trains that connect Nashik to other cities and towns.
