The Temple of Chaurdasa
Devata
|
8 km. This temple near Old
Agartala, features the Bengal dome patterned after the roofs of village huts in Bengal. The dome is surmounted by a
stupa-like structure which might reveal a trace of Buddhist
influence.Interestingly, the fourteen gods and goddessess, described collectively as the chaturdas (or
chaudda) Devta, are represented by their heads only and are known as Hara (Shiva), Uma
(Parvati), Hari (Vishnu), Ma (Laxmi), Bani (Saraswati), Kumar
(Kartikeya), Ganpa (Ganesh), Vidhi (Brahma), Kha (Prithvi), Abdi
(Samudra), Ganga, Sikha (Agni), Kama and Himadri. Tripuri names of fourteen gods and goddesses are however
Lampra, Akhatra, Bikhatra, Burasa, Thumanairag, Banirag,
Samgrama, Mataikatar, Tulma, Samgram, Nakchumatai, Mailuma, Khailuma and
Sakkalamati.
Tripura Road Transport Corporation runs three buses from Agartala to Udaipur at 9 and 10.30 and 5 pm. Journey time about 11/2
hrs

Amarpur
|
|
78km. A quiet picnic spot. On the banks of
Amarsagar, the 16th century artificial lake, stand the ruins of a palace. On the southern bank lies a temple dedicated to the eight-headed Goddess,
Mangalchandi. A fair is held here during Basant Panchami (February).

Deotamura
|
|
An extensive range of hills between Udaipur and
Amarpur, Deotamura literally means the 'peak of Gods' A panel of cudre images has been carved here on the hills facing the river
Gomati.

Dumbur
|
|
110 km. A serene and peaceful holiday resort at the source of the river
Gomati, the main watercourse of Tripura. The waterfalls here are a cascade of foamy water. Nearby is
Trithamukh, popular pilgrim centre for the tribal people of
Tripura. During Uttarayana Sankranti (January- February), thousands of people assemble and take a holy bath here. A hydro-Electric project has been constructed at
Dumbur.

Jampui
|

250 km. Situated at an altitude of approx. 1,000
metres. Jampui is an interesting place to visit. The summit of the Jampui hills commands a breathtaking, natural view.

Pilak
|
|
100 km. A treasure house of Buddhist sculpture belonging to 8-10 th centuries AD, the place seeks to throw new light on the history of
Tripura. Various mounds in and around Pilak and Jolaibari in Belonia of South Tripura strengthen the same. Some sculputres are lying on the site while a few can be seen at Agartala Museum.

Unakoti
|

200 km. Situated on a hillock about 45 metres high, there are colossal figures of Hindu gods and goddesses cut out of rocks. Dating back to the ancient Buddhist and Hindu periods of history, these sculptures include figures of Lord Shiva, Shri Ram, Hanuman and
Ganapati. Every year during spring on Ashokastami day, a huge fair is held here.
