| Siliguri, the
gateway of Eastern India, is the principal transit point for going to the Darjeeling
hills, Dooars, Sikkim, Bhutan, Eastern Nepal and Assam. Rapidly emerging
as a new commercial hub, Siliguri owes its prosperity to the tea and orange trades.
The venue of a number of international sporting tournaments, the city has of late
received a facelift. There is also a stadium near the central Kachari Road. A
major attraction of Siliguri city is its Hong Kong Market, a virtual Pandora's
box for foreign goods of all kinds. The University of North Bengal is situated
on the way to Bagdogra, away from the congestion of the main city area. |
