from Srinagar, Pahalgam is an idyllic resort, located by the banks of the river.
Pahalgam means a shepherds' village. The mountain town along the bank of River
Liddar is known for its trout, both rainbow and brown and is the starting point
of many a trek, excursions to glaciers, shrines and other scenic places. Camp
out, pack a picnic, soak in the sun, melt in a bonfire, smile, you are in one
of the most picturesque resorts in Kashmir. It is the base for several treks in
the region, and for the annual pilgrimage to the cave-shrine of Amarnath. The
surroundings are ideal and allow for relaxation and leisure in the true spirit
of a traditional hill station holiday. Altitude

TO VISIT | | Amarnath
Baisaran: 2 Kms. A glen in the pine and fir forest
commanding a charming view of the valley, about 152 metres up on the mountains.
Kolahhol Glacier: 36 Kms. Pahalgam to Aru (11 Kms,
2,408 metres), pony track. The path winds through woods to the meadow of Aru.
There the river Lidder disappears and reappears after about 27 metres.
Mamiesvar: 1.5 kms. Down the river from the bridge, there
is a small ancient stone temple consecrated to Shiva Mamesvara. The temple was
built before the 12th century AD, through the name of the builder is unknown.
There is a stone-lined tank, about 1.1 sq.mt in dimension. Phirilasn:
7 kms. An excellent trout fishing beat. Tarsar
Lake: 35 Kms. via Aru and Lidderwatt, the lake has beautiful surroundings.
