in India are the country’s biggest source of entertainment. The industry produces
the maximum number of films in the world, in a given year. Despite the proliferation
of cable TV, films have managed to survive competition and the industry churns
out blockbusters year after year. The most popular variety are made in
Mumbai, in the national language - Hindi; and find their way to the masses even
in the remotest parts of the country. Hollywood films are also popular among the
urban Indians and some dubbed versions do get screened in the interiors. VCDs,
cassettes and LD versions of films are available in most cities, though piracy
is prevalent. |
