Information
on YWCA or YMCA facilities or the Salvation Army
Hostels (like in Calcutta) can be found at the relevant
Metro or States section.
Bookings have to be confirmed,
as these have a great demand. Most cities house
these facilities, and some others of a similar nature.
Religious places have
the Dharamshtalas for lodging. These boarding houses
are generally run by socio-religious trusts or organisations
and prior booking is the norm. Non - Hindus are
however not allowed to avail of these facilities.
They are generally very austere in nature and the
house rules are spartan.
In Muslim holy places
like Ajmer, one will find Serais or rest houses
for lodging. Here too, one will have to send prior
information before arriving.
Cities like Calcutta,
Mumbai and Chennai also offer paying-guest type
of accommodation for as cheap as Rs.100/-
per day. Refer to local newspapers and also
the Special Information section of the Metros for
more information on this.
